Peninsulas EMS Council, Inc. is looking to fill the part time position of Performance Improvement Coordinator. The Performance Improvement Coordinator plans, designs and proliferates appropriate performance improvement initiatives within the Peninsulas EMS Council Region. He/she shall participate in case reviews, data collection and reporting; provide coordination and oversight activities in collaboration with agency and medical facilities’ quality management programs; ensure that providers, agencies and hospitals have the support, tools, and feedback needed to perform effective quality management programs; monitor the effectiveness of the Peninsulas EMS Council regional protocols; and completes or assist in other programs and requirements as directed.
There is a continuing lack of medication availability for the regional medication boxes. The Region continues to see shortages, including Epinephrine, Lasix, Morphine, D50, Haldol, and Narcan. The regional pharmacists are working to assure there will be adequate supplies, but these are national shortages. The hospitals have stated they will re-stock the medication boxes the best they can with what they have available as long as they are able. The Pharmacy and PPP Committee has recommended Medical Advisory Committee evaluation of adding alternative medications including Vasopressin and Fentanyl.

changes to the PEMS Regional Protocols based on Scope of Practice changes by OEMS and changes directed by the Medical Advisors Committee (MAC).
Resolution 2007-0XThe L-146E HSEEP Just in Time Evaluator Training scheduled for September 13, 2010 is in jeopardy of being cancelled due to lack of participation. This course is being promoted by HRMMRS to provide the region a method by which to train evaluators for upcoming as well as proposed agency specific, local and regional exercises. Registration for the 2010 EMS Symposium is now available on the Virginia Office of EMS web site . The Symposium will be held November 10–14, 2010. This year’s Symposium has over 260 classes that cover a wide range of topics. And, this year there will be two new tracks - Cardiac and Safety. The Virginia EMS Symposium registration deadline is Friday, October 1, 2010. Register early. Classes fill up quickly!
Virginia is home to many things such as incredible history, wonderful tourism and a FANTASTIC ANNUAL EMS SYMPOSIUM! 2011 is just around the corner and planning for the 2011 Virginia EMS Annual Symposium is already underway. With that being said, NOW is the time to submit your ideas, thoughts, suggestions for presentations, topics and guest speakers to the committee. Each and every year, those of us on the committee try to find the most cutting edge, innovative educational topics for EMS. This coming year is no different. As a committee member, I would be more than happy to submit your ideas, your suggestions for guest speakers and any other thoughts or comments you may have on the EMS Symposium.
Effective, June 2010, Virginia's Regional EMS Council Consolidated Test Site Registration System has been activated and will be used for all future consolidated test sites.

Each of the individuals listed below were nominated by their peers to be recognized for their outstanding contributions to Emergency Medical Services here in our region. Our winners will go on to compete against the winners from the other 10 regions for the Governors Award in their respective categories. The Tidewater and Peninsulas EMS Council's two-region recruitment campaign, BecomeEMS.org, kicked off during EMS Week. WAVY-TV 10 ran two long "EMS Success" stories during the week, and these stories marked an official announcement by WAVY-TV and Fox of their partnering with BecomeEMS.org.
