Board of Directors

The PEMS Board of Directors serve as representatives of the public and in the public interest. They represent the entire region served by the Council and vote in the best interest of the regional emergency medical services system as a whole. The Board has all powers inherent to corporate directors including but not limited to managing and administering the affairs of the Council. Each Director is entitled to one vote.

The Board is composed of up to twenty-eight (28) voting members nominated by the local jurisdictions, operational medical directors, hospital facilities, and communities as follows:

Licensed Emergency Medical Services Agencies - 4 (2 Virginia Peninsula, 1 Middle Peninsula, 1 Northern Neck)
Operational Medical Directors -1 (Regional OMD)
Hospital Facilities - 8
City/County Government – 3 (Virginia Peninsula, Middle Peninsula, Northern Neck)
Business – 3 (Virginia Peninsula, Middle Peninsula, Northern Neck)
Financial Institution – 1
State EMS Advisory Board – 1 (Non-Voting)
Regional Medical Director - 1
At Large – up to 6

Directors normally serve three-year terms of office, beginning on the date of election, and may serve consecutive terms. The term of the Advisory Board representative is concurrent with the Governor's appointment.
